Service Event at Coldwater Spring Sept. 28

The Twin Cities Illini Club will help restore native plants at the historic park location, part of the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. Sign up today and join us in celebrating National Public Land Day!

Join the Twin Cities Illini Club on Saturday, September 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon to lend a hand restoring our national park at Coldwater Spring and celebrate public lands! Volunteers that Saturday will plant native plants to increase biodiversity and promote wildlife habitat. The event is part of a National Park Service and Mississippi Park Connection effort to restore the land surrounding Coldwater Spring and create oak savanna, prairie, and wetland habitats.

Volunteers must be age 8 years of age or older and register through this site. Gloves and all necessary tools and equipment will be provided. Come out and help us plant for the future!

Directions: From Hiawatha Ave, turn east on 54th Street East and then immediately south on the frontage road. Paid parking is available along this street. (Parking at Coldwater is limited to disability parking only.) From the west, drive east on 54th Street East and turn south on the frontage road after passing through the Hiawatha Ave intersection. Coldwater Spring is located between Minnehaha Falls Regional Park and Historic Fort Snelling. The historic Coldwater spring house sits at its heart, bubbling away and bringing in the ducks.
 

Courtesy of REI Co-op, there will be T-shirts and a light breakfast for participants! Our club participated in a restoration event at this location in 2016. We're looking forward to returning to see the progress at the site in the last 3 years, and to be part of the continued progress.
