University of Illinois historian Adrian Burgos Jr. will discuss the impact of Afro-Latinos in pro baseball in a March 25 Zoom call to alumni. Register to receive a link to the 6:00 p.m. CT Zoom meeting.

In his talk, Dr. Burgos will consider how the experience of Afro-Latinos in baseball remains hidden and how this history might shape our understanding of race today. The talk “Afro-Latinos in Baseball: Hidden in Plain Sight” is part of the University of Illinois Alumni Association Speaker Series.
 

Dr. Burgos Jr. specializes in U.S. Latino and African American history, urban history and the history of sport. His publications include Playing America’s Game: Baseball, Latinos, and the Color Line (University of California Press, 2007) and Cuban Star: How One Negro League Owner Changed the Face of Baseball (Hill & Wang, 2011). He served as an advisor on the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s exhibit Viva Baseball! His research and teaching focus on the migration and immigration experience of Latinos within the United States.
