2025 Club Scholarship winner named
The Twin Cities Illini Club recognizes a Northfield student with its annual scholarship. The award recognizes excellence in academics and extracurricular participation.
The 2025 Jack Carlson Memorial Twin Cities Illini Club Scholarship has been awarded to Shelby Patterson. A 2025 graduate of Northfield High School, Shelby participated in the chess club, pep band and club hockey and earned AP Scholars with Honors after having successfully completed 11 AP classes. She followed a passion for substance abuse prevention by participating in a youth-teaching-youth program to educate students on the dangers of chemical abuse.

Outside of school, Shelby focused on her love of horses. She was a camp counselor at a local horse stable and provided riding lessons through community education. Shelby also trained and competed with her personal horses in equestrian events throughout high school.
Shelby will be studying Animal Science at the University of Illinois, with a plan to work with a variety of animals as a veterinarian.
Established in 2008, the Twin Cities Illini Club student scholarship recognizes excellence in academics and extracurricular participation and is awarded annually to a Minnesota student accepted into the University of Illinois. Profiles of previous honorees appear on the club’s Past Recipients page.
